9/16/2023 0 Comments Ww2 army sizesAlso the US had about 70,000 aircraft in the Army air force of which about 40,000 were combat aircraft and the rest were troop transport, trainers and reconision. The half million marines were many times considered part of the navy. You have to figure the US had about 6 million in the navy and air force which was the largest Navy and Air Force of all time. We also had 3.4 million in the Navy and about a half million in the Marines. As for the US we had about 6 million in the army ground forces and 2.3 million in the army air forces which the air force was considered part of the army in WWII and thats why they say 8.3 million were in the US army at the end of the war. The best I have been able to find is close to 11 million in the USSR were in the army and about 2 million in the navy and air force. But when it comes to the army the USSR had more soldiers in the army. As for the US 16.4 million served in the armed forces in WWII and the peak strenth at the end of the war was just over 12 million. But the peak strenth was about 13 million as it means as many died or became prisoners more were mobilized but they never had more then about 13 million at any one time. The fact is they say the USSR had from 25 to 30 million people who served at one time or another in the armed forces in WWII. I just stumbled across this and found it intersting.
